Talk 3: Analysis, Representation and Application of Typical Polarimetric Scattering Mechanism in PolSAR

Abstract:

Polarimetric SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is an all-day and all-weather active remote sensing radar and it can obtain more detailed information and characteristics of the target by transmitting electromagnetic waves with different polarization modes. Therefore, polarimetric SAR attracts more attention and has been widely used in the fields of environmental monitoring and ground object classification. Polarimetric Target Decomposition is a representative method and it expresses the average mechanism as the sum of independent elements in order to associate a physical mechanism with each resolution cell, which allows the identification and separation of scattering mechanisms in polarization signature for purposes of classification and recognition. In this report, the analysis, representation and application of typical polarimetric scattering mechanisms in PolSAR are introduced, as well as the principles of some polarimetric decomposition methods are compared.

Biography:

Lamei Zhang received the Bachelor degree, Master Degree and Ph.D. degree of Informationand Communication Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China in 2004, 2006 and 2010, respectively.

She is currently an associate professor and ph.D supervisor of Department of Information Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology. Her current research interests are in the field of information extraction and interpretation of HR SAR image, polarimetric SAR and polarimetric SAR interferometry, artificial intelligence algorithm and its application in remote sensing. She is an IEEE senior member and currently serves as the Secretary of IEEE GRSS Chapter, and a very active Review for many international journals.
