Talk 1: Precise positioning of point scatters by multiple SAR images

Speaker: Jicang Wu

Affiliation: College of Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Tongji University

Academic title: Professor

Abstract:

With advancement of space technology, the accuracy of SAR satellite orbits and image focusing have been greatly improved. It is possible to determine precise three-dimensional coordinates of the point scatter in SAR images by intersection of distances from multiple SAR satellites.  In this paper, the positioning model and main sources of errors are discussed and relevant key methods for precise positioning of point scatters are presented. Several precise positioning examples of radar corner reflectors and nature point scatters by using multiple SAR images of different SAR satellite platforms are given to show the efficiency of our methods. The results show that the accuracy of point scatter positioning is less than 1m for Sentinel-1, and less than 0.1m for TerraSAR-X, and is one order higher for SAR corner reflectors.
