Talk 3: A Novel Phased Array Radar for Geological Disaster Monitoring and Early Warning

Speaker: Weiming Tian

Affiliation: School of information and electronics, Beijing Institute of Technology

Academic title: Professor

Abstract:

Landslides, rockfalls, and collapses have the characteristics of strong suddenness and great destructiveness, and are the main types of geological disasters. Phased array radar uses electronic scanning to achieve rapid beam scanning. By combining phased array radar beam electronic scanning technology with moving target detection and phase differential interferometry deformation measurement technology, it will achieve the ability to measure small deformations and detect complex moving targets, providing new equipment for monitoring and warning of multiple geological disasters such as landslides, rockfalls, and collapses, This report will introduce the concept and key technologies of phased array geological hazard monitoring and warning radar.

Biography:

Weiming Tian received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2005 and 2010, respectively. He is currently Professor with the School of Information and Electronics, Beijing Institute of Technology. He designed and developed the ground-based MIMO differential interference radar, which has been widely applied in landslide geological disaster monitoring and warning. His research interests include MIMO imaging radar, DInSAR, high-resolution SAR system and signal processing.
